Would Moto Guzzi V1000 brackets fit a 96 California?

I am looking at a Vetter Windjammer IV for sale and the fellow says he has the mounting hardware that fit his 80s Moto Guzzi V1000 and “Fits all large Moto Guzzi's 1970 thru 1990. Unfortunately he is a 4 hour drive away so it is not convenient to go look unless I think the mounting hardware would also fit my 96 California. Here is a photo he sent me of the hardware. Can anyone tell me the chances of using this to mount his Windjammer on my 96 California?

There is a set of Windjammer hardware on eBay that is listed as “moto guzzi California III windjammer mounts” That is a bit different.

This is my 96 Cali with its current H&H fairing:

Any advice you can give me would be much appreciated.

Cheers, Phil Warner

Man, that's a good question. I am pretty sure that there was never one made from Vetter themselves. However, that looks as somebody took a standard older mount and retrod it to fit the guzzis. I am speaking from not know the true answer, but making a guess.

Thanks for the reply. If Vetter made no mounts for Moto Guzzis, that might explain the difference in these two sets of mounts. I've asked a couple of Guzzi parts houses if the V1000 and California frames are different but haven't gotten a definitive answer yet so I am torn about swapping the H&H fairing I have now for the possibility of the Windjammer IV. I thought I might be able to use the H&H on my Triumph America, but the bars and the forks are very different from the Guzzi so the H&H mounts can't be used on the Triumph.

If anyone else has an idea please weigh in. BTW I've talked to several folks who have had Windjammers and they spoke very highly of them.

You might find a small welding shop that could help you make a bracket to mount that WJ4 on your bike. It costs nothing to ask. Just show the welder pictures of brackets even if they don'r fit just to give him or her an idea of what you need. I fabricated a bracket for my WJ4 to attach it to my modern 2006 Honda VT600. Obviously brackets were never made for my Bike and a Windjammer fairing. It's not hard at all to do for anyone that can weld and fab parts.

The issue with any bike made post 1985-ish is that the mounts were never designed for that specific bike, so modifications are going to be needed to get the fairing mounted the correct way. The good news is, it can be done...

I bought the Windjammer IV and the seller had two sets of mounts that are just like the mounts in this eBay listing for WJ IV and mounts from a 1981 Moto Guzzi Convert.

Here is a photo of the mounts that are like the ones that were with my Windjammer.

The number stamped on one of the Vetter marked single bar mounts is 150160023; there is a scrunched up yellow sticker on the other one with some numbers written in ink that appear to begin with 5222 and end with -78 but I can’t read all of them. These appear to be designed to mount to the top of a set of crash bars, but the bars on my 96 are lower than the cylinder heads so these mounts would be too low; they are also for a smaller diameter bar than my 1 inch diameter crash bars.

The frame mounts have no numbers that I can find. A quick fit-up indicated they might work on my 96 but I have to wait for the rain to pass to get a better idea. The question I’ve asked the Guzzi folks is whether the 96 California frame is the same as an 80s V1000 frame and I haven’t found the answer to that yet.

I find it interesting that Vetter would supply two sets of mounts for a Moto Guzzi. Maybe one for a Guzzi with "safety" bars and another for those without? The seller of my Windjammer said he originally ordered the fairing with Guzzi Mounts for his V1000 Convert and then ordered mounts for a Honda later and I thought one of these sets might be for the Honda, but the eBay listing has both sets too.
