Five Star Vetteral
I posted elsewhere that I bought this fairing on eBay and here are two of the pictures that were on the add:
It doesn't look too bad here... but
Notice how you can see the bottom of the stereo in this one? I knew the condition of it buying it, but in a past life, I was an aircraft mechanic so these things don't bother me so I figured why not. I got the box yesterday and when I opened it up I was not disappointed. It even came complete with a hornets nest inside the fairing. It's a good thing that the temps are so cold, otherwise I may have had the Sting and not the Rooster!
So I am now going to start a trek through fairing repair with the hopes of getting this thing on my naked GL1200 in time to take it to a GoldWing forum meet and greet in North Carolina in the beginning of July. The first thing I need to do is figure out how I am going to fix this hole!!!!
Last night I went scrounging through the attic looking for something that would work, and there it was. You know those old VHS tape towers? Well this one (or what's left of it) is going to finally make it's way to the dump now.
I first needed to cut it down to size:
And then get rid of all those little tangs used for holding tapes:
Now it is just a matter of cutting it down to size to get it to the right dimensions for the hole:
I just need to make a trip to the hardware store to get some ABS glue, some fiberglass, some resin/hardner, and some bondo and this holes goose will be cooked! There are a few other smaller cracks that I am going to take care of at the same time, but those are easy compared to this.
Electrical is next as I will need to do something better than this stereo that was in it.
