Distance between exhaust and saddle bags?

Hello guys,

I‘m now welding together my brackets for the saddle bags. Gonna modify some GL1000 frames to fit on my GSX1100G...not easy at all to find the best position.

How much distance would you recommend between exhaust and bags? 3-4cm (1,5in) enough?

When I did mine, I wound up with about 3 inches of clearance when I was finished. It wasn't easy modifying brackets and obtaining that distance either.
