Hello everyone!

I'm new here and new to the Vetter name of products.

I just purchased a 1981 Goldwing Interstate and it came with a Vetter Terraplane, I believe SN 344, and figured this was probably the best place to start! I've wanted a side car for quite some time and found an amazing deal so I picked it up.

The Terraplane came with some mounting hardware, not sure if it's the correct ones for the GL1100. It's missing the windscreen, and will need the seats recovered. Beyond that, it's in pretty good shape, there was a small spot on the bottom side where the fiberglass was a little soft. The brake setup is complete and will need gone through.

It should be a fun project and I can't wait to get it mounted to the bike!

Welcome to the forum Squirrel! Really cool purchase. Seems the the Terraplanes are in style these days. I have seen a number of new owners. Please take a peek around and if you have questions ask them. We have a large amount of data, and great folks that share.

:cheers

Another Winger - Score!!!!!!

Welcome to the party. :cheer

I'm no help when it comes to the terraplane, but Tom can help you out.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'm already learning a lot from reading around the forum. I'm thinking I may look into Vetter-izing my GL1100. Between eBay and Craigslist, I should be able to find what I need.

For the 'bigger, bulkier' stuff a local pick up (ie Craigslist) is usually more cost effective. Shipping can be a bear. For the most part, Vetter stuff from 'any' bike will fit on any other bike, only the mounting brackets are different for each bike.

IMHO, if the Hondaline stuff is in good condition, (looks good in the pics?), I'd stick with that. Nothing wrong with 'vetterizing' your bike, but "If it ain't broke....."

Welcome, let me know what Terraplane info you need, usually I can direct you in the right direction. And thanks Brian!

Welcome to the forum. I'm in the process of refurbishing a Terraplane myself (SN 07-100310). Terraplane mounts can be almost impossible to find. Jay Giese at Dauntless Sidecars purchased the entire stock a few years ago, but has since sent them all to the recycler, because they weren't selling. Based on your serial number, it is likely the mounts you have will fit an 81 GL1100. 80-81 GL1100 mounts are not interchangeable with 82-83, due to a wheel size change. Tom is the resident Terraplane expert and has posted some great pictures on my Gold Wing/Terraplane thread, in the Terraplane section, showing close ups of the mounts. I'm pretty much of a newbie, so far, but if I can help just give a holler! Good luck.

I screwed up - the mount pictures are not in my Gold Wing/Terraplane thread. Probably due to some age-related malady. Anyway here they are. By the way, that's one spiffy looking Interstate.

Thanks!

I'll have to take a look at what I have and see where it get's me. If anything, I'll have to fabricate some new mounts in which case, I'll probably ask around for some measurements on the original mounts.

I'm itching to get started on refurbishing the Terraplane, but I'm currently doing field training for work and it makes things a little difficult.

If you guys could, please start a thread in the Terraplane Technical Forum. This helps us to help future users find question and answers to their question with more ease.

Again welcome Squirrel!
