Our Dad's And Their Motorcycles.

This is a tribute thread for those of us who's Dads are, or where into motorcycling. Pictures and stories are welcome and encouraged. Did your Dad influence you or try to detour you? One thing I know for certain, we all ended up loving motorcycles.

My Dad is a car and motorcycle restoration wizard. He has built and painted many cool bikes over the years. This pic will get this thread going. Share share share.

My dad won't touch a motorcycle again.

In 1981 (I believe), he and his older brother were riding a motorcycle. They had been drinking and probably doing drugs, but how messed up they were, I don't know.

Somehow they wrecked the motorcycle, his brother was badly injured and actually died twice on the way to the hospital, and they revived him both times. His brother has been handicapped since the wreck. Dad told me once that every time he thinks about getting another motorcycle, he just looks at his brother.

From the stories I've been told over the years, it sounds like they are both lucky to be alive today.

My dad had an old British bike and met a lorry head on, recieved a fractured neck but was saved by old style pressed hardboard helmet although it is now flattened out like a pancake with just the top of the shell still intact.

Well, in another thread, I detailed finding my late Father's 1981 Goldwing last year, after an almost 25 year absence. I own his '47 Indian as well. Other than those two bikes, my Dad owned a number of bikes at various times as I was growing up. In approximate chronological order, they were:

1. An "early 60s" Lambretta motorscooter
2. A "late 60s" Yamaha 250 single stroker (Enduro I think)
3. A 1968 Harley / Aeromacci 125 "Rapido" (bought for my use)
4. A 1972 Yamaha XS650
5. A 1979 Honda CX500 (bought for my use)
6. A 1981 Honda CB750 Custom
7. A 1977 (I think) Hondamatic 750

Basically, Dad got back into motorcycling in the late 1970s after almost 20 year gap. He started with the Lambretta (which he looked ridiculous on), and worked his way up to the Goldwing. He bought the Indian in the last year of his life, a replacement for the motorcycle he had in his youth. Of the bikes listed above, the one I have sometimes toyed with replacing is the Rapdio; I probably never will as I am waaaaaaaaaaay to big for it. But when I was 15, I'd swap my moped plate on it and (with my Dad's blessing) pretend it was a moped. It was about the same size as one, but a whole lot faster.

My dad started riding in the mid.'70s after he bought me a '72 Yamaha 60 mini enduro. He bought himself an old Honda scrambler, " after all the boy can't ride alone." The only other bike he bought was a '79 Yamaha XS11 that he rode for close to 20 years in all kinds of weather, like aliens, that would be the bike I'd love to find and have back.

Dad has had and painted so many bikes over his many years, its just to cool to see these vintage photos.
I am not even sure what this bike is. Dad here with a custom 80's Yamaha XJ maybe?

My dad got me hooked on motorcycles and Vetter fairings At an early age(I think 3,lol) I still ride with him today. He has an 81 gold wing and I have my first goldwing, a 1976 gl1000 ltd.

My dad never rode bikes until long after I started riding. Now that I do, he has started riding a Helix. So while this is a thread about sons picking up the bug from their fathers, my story is backwards... for now at least. Maybe some day my sons will ride.

My dad had a 1965 Triumph Bonneville like this. I remember sitting on the tank between his arms.

I really like this bike Dad had. White looks clean on this 1978 Kawasaki KZ650SR.
