Hello from Colorful Colorado!

David here.
I've been using this site for a long time to find info on Vetter products, but I just realized that I never registered! Just finished getting all the pieces on my bike in celebration of my birthday in a couple of days.
I have a 1983 (same year as me) Kawasaki KZ750 F-1 LTD Shaft. When I bought the bike, I was a bit obsessed with cafe racers and was going to do something like that. It was, and still mostly is, completely stock. After doing some research on the web, I saw about a hundred and fifty thousand of those '70's and '80's "Japanese Import Standard" bikes turned to cafes, so I wanted to go someplace different with it. Long story short, it's a mini bagger now I put a Windjammer on to start, then I built some massive metal saddlebags, and now for my birthday I bought a cargo rack to attach the trunk, hooked in the CycleSound, and put the lowers on the fairing.
I'll post pics up soon, but I was just so excited for my first post.

Lots of amazing guys and gals here, as well as some invaluable info from Mr. Vetter himself. I'm looking forward to finally talking to some of you who have helped me out so much to make my mounting bracket, wire my fairing, cut my windshield, and a million other things about a million different aspects of biking and maintenance/repair.

I can't wait till I have another vehicle and can take it apart for painting. The bike itself runs AMAZINGLY, just a tiny, tiny head gasket leak and the valves need redone. Perfect job to get everything out of the way at once

I actually have been curious as to what other types of trim anyone else has used or knows can be used. The stuff Mr. Vetter sells is quite pricey, and I have no experience with auto trim at all. Also if anyone has any experience with marker lights on the fairing lowers. I was thinking as turn signals, too. Those two things seem to be only answered by talking to someone who has done it before, and is hard to find on the internet.

You don't really need marker lights up front. The leading edge lights on the fairing wrap around so they can be seen from the side by other drivers. I would add red marker lights to the rear. I've ordered Red LED strips that I will attach to my Vetter Trunk. I plan on replacing the two (rusty) chrome side bumpers with 1/2" wide steel strips those LED strips will be attached. Those LED strips come with peel and stick 3M tape so that's why I'll be using those 1/2" wide steel strips. If you are dead set on adding clearance lights up front I suggest those peel and stick LED strips up there as well. You will not need to drill any holes (you might regret later) to install them. I would stick those strips on the fairing right above the Lowers. That way you could just run the wires at the front of the fairing opening up front and hook them into the fairing wiring harness. That way you don't need to disconnect them when removing the fairing from the bike when it's time to check and adjust engine valve lash.
I order LED strips ( and lots of other stuff) from a web site in Asia. They offer free shipping and the cost of those LED strips are a fraction of the price you would pay for them here in the USA. The only problem is the time it takes to get that stuff. It can take upwards of 6 weeks for an order to arrive. What the mail system does there is park a 40' shipping container at the warehouse for packages going to the USA. As orders are made the packages are put in that 40' container. Only after that 40' container is fully packed with mail does it get shipped to USPS in Los Angeles, CA. Considering the cost difference it's well worth the wait. I paid $3.88 for 4, 1 foot Red LED strips that would have cost over $30 at your local Auto parts store.

Yes the leaves are starting to turn, unfortunately. I'm not a fan of cold weather at all, and this summer was really cold and wet, so that sucks...

You were right about the hours in front of the computer, Scott-E. That website is cool. Thanks also for the advice about the marker lights. Here in Colorado are the worst driving habits that I have seen, and I've lived in the mid-west and Las Vegas, even. The traffic is horrible, the roads are shite, and the people drive like MANIACS! I was thinking of lighting it up like some of the Harley's I've seen, but I obviously want to do that after the paint. Also, used the excuse of "it's my birthday this month" to buy a bunch of stuff (speakers, fairing lowers, cargo rack, and all the hardware to put everything on), so it's going to be a few weeks till I can spend any more money on myself
