Help Identify My Fairing

I picked up this Windjammer for my 78 GS750 and I would like to know if anyone can ID the model. The only numbers I have is the S/N 24-259131. I would like to find the correct mount for it. I did find a owners manual for a Windjammer 5 and it seems to match this fairing, but I'm not sure. Also would like to put a new bulb in it and need to know how to disassemble the headlight. Does the color combination mean anything or has it been re-painted? No Windjammer logo on the paint. It is in really great shape, the garage lighting does not do it justice.

It isn't a WJ V: it's missing the headlight trim piece for that. Since the WJ SS and IV look identical, the difference is in the serial numbers and your serial number makes it a SS. As far as the mount is concerned, all WJ mount the same: the difference is how the mount attaches to the bike, so you will need to find a mount specific for your year/make/model bike.

Thanks for the replies. I agree, this must be the SS model. Good S/N match and the pictures I've seen look just like it.

Do you think that this eBay listing looks like the correct mount? Nothing like the one I have now. The one I have could be used if I relocated the frame mounts a bit. The pics I posted have the fairing resting on that mount but it is nowhere near safe enough to ride with.

It does look pretty good. I am going to have to change the color, but it looks a lot better on the bike than the Rooster I have. Very period correct too.
 
What year is your 750? Not sure how the mounts work for the Suzuki's but I know the 1000 GoldWing mount fit only 1000's and 1100 fit only 1100's. Years don't matter but models do. Are there differences between the years of the GS750 models?

It is a 78 GS750E. I found out that all I needed to do on the mount I have is to cut off the lower curved pieces and tack them back on a bit closer to center. Problem solved. Should be able to paint it tomorrow and I'll post up after it is done. BTW the Craig Vetter web page is very interesting. The Phantom 1700 was a wild looking thing.
 
Just a note. I am really quite amazed about the durability of these fairings. The one I have was made in the area of 1978, or thereabouts, and the structure is solid. The electrical connections, and wiring, is almost pristine. Now this one has obviously been well taken care of, and it was repainted because I found a vehicle registration in a side compartment that shows the color of the bike and it matches the color of the fairing. But there are a lot of things that have been "taken care of" and still shows wear and tear. These are little ole fairings that have taken tons of abuse, taken off and on how many times, and still hold up. I have the opportunity to buy out a guy's used bike parts business and there are several Vetters in the inventory, and all of them that I looked at just need a paint job. It's just amazing and a tribute to the guys at Vetter.
 
I am too amazed of the durability. These fairing have been on and off of motorcycles, vibrated to death, windblown, and they still hold up. All of the faring I have are in very good shape, however used throughout the years. There is definitely something to say for good old fashioned American craftsmanship. :cool:
 
When I bought my 1100, it had signs of having once been slid on the right side. The fairing only had minor scuffs on it and the windscreen was just scratched at the top right corner. The same thing couldn't be said for the trunk. My point is, the fairing is a beast. Craig knew, and knows now, what he is doing when it comes to these fairings.
 
You asked how to get the headlight out? Grab the chrome ring around the bulb and turn counter-clockwise as you stand in front. Push in slightly will help.
That should do the trick. Can be replaced with any standard automotive headlight bulb or if a small bulb ditto.
 
Thanks, I'm going to give that a try. The light is working fine right now but when I asked I was going to paint behind it. I got it pretty good without taking it off, but now I know.
