Hi there,

I have just bought a slice of eighties nostalgia from eBay and pick it up on Monday...

I have been a fan of Vetter fairings since I first started riding (back in the mid-70s), but this is the first one I have owned. I expect I'll be back here for advice when I get it home and can post up some decent pictures...

It's a two owner bike with 41k miles, but has been standing for years.

Cheers,

Mike :frontmoto

All I can say is WOW! and period correct at that. Matching graphics and all, what a great find and welcome to the fairing, I mean forum!

Scrape off the dust, leave the patina, and share more pics!

Well thanks for the welcome!:cheers

I'm really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh (or in the rust and fibreglass :D).

I'm over in the USA riding for three weeks in late June/early July (starting in Portland, OR) so I may use that trip as a means to get any spares I need and sneak them back in my bag...

As soon as I have it back home and can get a good look at it I'll post some pictures and you can start educating me on what I've bought! :)

PS - Trophies - that's a new one! :D

Hi Mike, another member from the UK at last welcome.
Looks like you got most of what you need in one go well done.

Ah, I was wondering if I was going to be the sole Brit... :type

Plans have changed and I can't pick it up until Thursday evening - dammit!

Great find! Love those red graphics!

How is the CX project coming along?
Picked it up on the Thursday from Leeds.

The chap had repainted it AFTER he'd listed it. :confused:With household black paint. :eek:And silver paint on the wheels.

To say he wasn't the sharpest tool in the box is to be doing a disservice to all blunt tools. I toyed with leaving it, but had already paid him a substantial deposit and shelled out £120 for the collection trip, so decided to look upon it as a challenge rather than a problem... :D

I've got it home and put it in the garage and will probably have a look at it this weekend. In fairness it is planned as a two year project, so all he's done is given me more paint to strip (he didn't paint the fairing or panniers). I'll be needing a repair or replacement for the RH lower, which is badly cracked. I bought a complete (no mounts) fairing and lowers for £55 delivered off eBay last week - hasn't arrived yet, but it may come in handy (although it was for a Suzuki GS8550, so the lowers will be different).

One of the pannier grab handles on the CX has been repaired, so I'll need to look into putting that back to standard. Definitely a long term project, though. All the keys and locks worked (although stiff - and it seems all the locks have different keys - is that normal?). It looked like the previous owner (this was his Dad's bike - his Dad died last year - perhaps of shame in having fathered such a fuckwit) had spent a lot of money at one stage - aftermarket shocks etc, so it'll be an interesting bike to restore.

I'll try to summon the enthusiasm to get it out of the garage and post some pics up this weekend...

I had a problem with different locks / no keys so bought 10 from eBay see link, they needed a bit of filing as the striker plate mount was a different fitting but eventually made them all fit and if you buy 10 they are keyed alike, maybe worth getting 1 as a trial as I did, make sure you can make it fir everywhere then buy enough for everything.

I was going to buy that silver fairing myself just for the lowers but the guy said that they did not have a yellow Type Number label inside so was not sure if they were actually off a GS850 which would have probably fitted my Z and I realy wanted some black ones to replace the GL ones I am using.
