Hi,
I'm hopefully just about to buy an X75 no.00730, can anyone tell me would this number be a 1973?.

Well, it says it was manufactured in 10/72. You'd have to find out what date the model year changed back then.

Perhaps you could also find out whether the VIN contains a letter or number that indicates the model year.

A Triumph forum would be an excellent place to ask about this.
 
Check the stamped number on the crankcase below the cylinders.

Engine serial number should read:
TRX75 PH 00703

Frame serial number should read:
V75V 00703

I know number 00730 were buildt in november 1972 so if Engine and frame numbers are correct then there is a huge possibility the bike is a genuine X75 Hurricane.
 
By the way, a late '72 differs not att all from a '73 Hurricane.

The first batch in '72 have a minor difference in the Engine serial numbers as the plan was to market them as BSA and not Triumph.

So if You stumble upon an genuine X75 then just buy it and be glad you have one of the only 1100 produced.
 
Note:
P in "PH" is 1972
if it reads NH on your bike it means 1973.
