It certainly lets the wind get on your face so if you only have one windscreen and plan on riding in the colder months, it might not be what you want to do, but after 200 miles yesterday in 80 degree temps, I am glad I did it.

How is the wind buffering? One of my pet peeves about windshields that are just to short is that they shake your head all over the place. I would really like to cut one of my windshields down but don't dare to for that reason. I do like not necessarily having to wear glasses behind the tall windshield either, but don't really like looking through the glass at night. 99 problems I guess.

The windscreen on my Windjammer is 14" inches at the centre. My Windjammer is on a modern bike, a Honda VLX 600 Cruiser. Due to the low seat the windscreen was naturally going to be shorter. Before I cut it I used a level to figure out how tall to cut it. I placed the end of the level at my lips, made sure the bubble was showing level, and looked at the yard stick I had taped to the fairing. That's how I came up with that 14 inch height. That height keeps the air stream out of my face but allows it to stream across the top of my helmet. This helps keep the helmet cool and as the helmet has small vent scoops provides a little air flow through the helmet as well. I may cut a new windscreen when summer is over. I'll cut it 16 inches so the windscreen is just below eye level. I'll still be able to look over the screen but the air stream will be above my helmet.

I really like how that windjammer looks on that bike! I'll have to do some measuring and see if shortening it up some makes sense. It has been above average heat here in upstate NY, so I would definitely like to get some air moving behind that big wall.

I put my Windjammer on my VLX 600 back in February. It was cold when I mounted it despite everyone telling me how ugly they thought they looked. That fairing takes on a whole different look with a short windscreen. Now there are a couple more local VLX 600's sporting Windjammers as well. Perhaps I'm making Windjammers popular again!

I have the extra tall windshield and it helps with rain,sand bugs etc. I look thru it but I got used to it.I like it

The only problem with that is when it rains or the windscreen fogs up which is a common problem with plastic windscreens. You could add a wiper to solve that problem.
A manual wiper is cheap and very easy to install. Just drill a hole in your windscreen which is easy as they are clear plastic, install the bushing, then the wiper arm, shaft, and handle. Then you can reach up with your left hand and wipe the windscreen with the handle. I've seen motor operated wipers available from PeerClear.com as well.

It does increase wind noise and wind in the face significantly and buffeting changes with the shorter windscreen. Depending on the height of the windscreen, my head is buffeted when wearing a helmet. With the short windscreen, it isn't buffeted but just wind blast. Ear plugs and glasses/goggles were required at highway speeds when wearing my 1/2 helmet.

Well, that speaks volumes (no pun intended). I've never needed earplugs on a bike.

Only on I-81 when I was doing 80+ mph. When I was on the BRP... no problem.
