Blank Canvas

Today was my ground-hog day!

Earlier this month, during a not-so-warm day, I primed the bag doors and thought they were ready for the first coat of black paint.

I was able to go for a ride today and when I got home, I shot a coat of black, and boy does black show EVERY imperfection. Back to the beginning... :bankhead: :(

Primered it for the first coat with duplicolor filling primer. More sanding tonight and more of the same.

As far as the final coat, I have found that the Rust Oleum Professional cans work best for me, so gloss black and then I follow that up with MinWax spray poly.

It holds up better than any other clear coat that I have tried from a can...

Finally! The sun, the moon, Jupiter and Venus must have been in alignment with Earth and Mars because I was able to get the final coat of paint and clear on the door. Then the problem became time... so I took them with me to work today and while things were dead at work, I was able to put everything together. :D

I couldn't wait to get home and put them on the 1200 and see how they looked.

Now, all I need is to just be able to get two coats of black onto the fairing without the last one orange peeling, and I will be happy, happy, happy!

Those look killer Brian! The shape of the bike compliments the shape of the bags. Side cover ties right in. You should take it one step further and match the pin striping of the Honda. All in all stellar job!

I agree that ride looks good with the hard vetter bags :)

Have you ever looked at something when it was finished and said: "it isn't done yet?" Well that is me...

The more I look at it, the more I think the pin stripes on the bags have to match the side covers so, back to work. At least it is warming up in the shop.

Thanks! As long as there aren't any runs in the clear coat on the fairing, that might be done also...

Well it isn't a Blank Canvas any more! :D

I originally set out on this project because I needed a means of locking things up in separate compartments when I travel through non reciprocating States. I then decided that I no longer like the wind in my face at high-way speed so I wanted something to shield me a little bit.

I think I succeeded. Oh and that Boss Audio Stereo - I have no problem hearing it at 85 mph. Now I think I really need that tinted windscreen.
