Vetter Terraplane

Very nice pics! I'm attaching my Vetter to a 2002 HD Road King Classic. I have a new hurdle to jump. I thought I could use a front wheel from a Harley on my sidecar so all my wheels would match....WRONG! The Vetter wheel is 4 1/8 "wide and the front wheel from a Harley is 6 3/4". The axle on the Vetter is only 8" long. So any ideas on how to get a matching spoked wheel for my rig? Do I get a longer shaft or try to find a narrower wheel?
Any ideas would be great!!!

Seems to me fitting an axle that already works with the wheel would be the way to go.

In other words, figure out a way to mount a Harley axle to the sidecar.

That way, the axle-to-bearing-to-wheel interfaces would remain as they are.

Plus, you've got a brake disc already mounted to the wheel.

Randy, been waiting to see your progress.
As for how to solve your wheel issue, there are several ways to go on this. Maybe the easiest and possibly the cheapest all around would be to find a custom bike shop and have them fit a bare hub to your axle, then lace up the correct rim (probably the one you already have on hand!) to match your bike's.
Next best option would be to find an axle stub to fit the wheel you have, then find a good shop to weld it onto your leading link. Alignment is quite critical here or you might experience tire wear issues.
Again, I wish you were closer so we could do the axle stub swap together.
